The Mulund Kerala Samajam will celebrate this year’s Onam on September 20 at the Maharashtra Seva Sangh Hall, above Apna Bazaar, Mulund West. The celebrations, scheduled from 10 am to 2 pm, will feature a variety of cultural and artistic programmes.
The celebrations will formally begin at 10 am with the lighting of the Bhadradeepam by Samajam President T. K. Rajendrababu, General Secretary B. K. K. Kannan, Treasurer Muralidharan and Programme Convener Sasidharan Nair.
The programme will include a presentation of the Ajith Kumar Nair Memorial Award to the students who secured the highest marks in the SSC and HSC examinations during the last academic year.
The women’s section, led by Usha Radhakrishnan, will present a Kaikottikali performance. Other highlights include a presentation featuring Mahabali Chakravarthy, songs by Siva Shankar Krishna, winner of Flowers Top Singer Season 5, and the Sree Krishna Leela ballet by students of Geeta Nrithi Vidyalaya, Mulund, under the guidance of dance teacher Girija.
A dance presentation based on Ramanan, the celebrated poem by Malayalam poet Changampuzha, directed by Kalamandalam C. Gopalakrishnan, will also be staged. Sangeetha, Suprabha Nair and Itassery Ramachandran will present musical programmes.
Eminent personalities from Mumbai’s socio-cultural circles will also be honoured during the celebrations.
The programme will conclude at 2 pm with a traditional Onam Sadya.
