In a significant step towards inclusive healthcare, dedicated community clinics for transgender individuals, sex workers and other marginalized communities have been officially handed over in Kalwa and Dombivli. The initiative aims to provide safe, accessible and non-judgmental healthcare to communities that often face barriers while seeking medical assistance.
The clinics have been established by the Rotary Club of Dombivli North, Rotary International District 3142, as part of its community welfare and social inclusion initiatives. The handover ceremony at Dombivli East was attended by Rtn. Dr. Nilesh Jaywant, District Governor (RID 3142), Shri Harshal More, Corporator, Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation, and Rotary leaders including Rtn. Dr. Oommen David, Rtn. Maya Sawant and Rtn. Virupax Renbenur.
The Kalwa clinic has been established in the name of Rotarian Dr. Oommen David, Charter President of Rotary Club of Dombivli North, while the Dombivli clinic has been dedicated in memory of late Rotarian Kishor Kamat.
The centres will provide general healthcare, routine check-ups, diagnostic screenings and counselling, along with HIV/STI prevention and treatment, mental health support and wellness counselling. Trained medical personnel and community outreach workers will help ensure a welcoming and dignified environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Rtn. Dr. Nilesh Jaywant highlighted the importance of making healthcare accessible to marginalized communities and creating safe spaces free from stigma and discrimination. Rtn. Dr. Oommen David said the project reflects Rotary’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
The inauguration was attended by members of the transgender and marginalized communities, government officials and representatives of the Aastha Parivaar team.
The initiative marks an important effort towards strengthening equitable and community-centred healthcare services across the Kalwa-Dombivli region.
