Navi Mumbai: Kharghar Kerala Samajam has unveiled “Mizhithurakkal”, a unique mural that beautifully showcases the cultural heritage, traditions, and religious harmony of Kerala. The mural has been created in front of the Samajam office as a lasting tribute to the state’s rich artistic and cultural legacy.

The highlight of the project was the traditional “Mizhithurakkal” ceremony, during which artist Jayakrishnan completed the mural by painting the eyes of the figures, symbolically bringing the artwork to life. While the mural had been completed earlier, the final touch of painting the eyes marked its ceremonial inauguration.

The mural depicts some of Kerala’s most iconic cultural symbols, including temples, churches and mosques, reflecting the state’s enduring message of communal harmony. It also features celebrated art forms such as Kalaripayattu, Kathakali, Ottanthullal, Mohiniyattam, and the famous snake boat race, alongside Kerala’s vibrant natural heritage represented by the Indian peacock, Vezhambal (Great Hornbill), Kanikonna, and Kasithumba flowers.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by art enthusiasts and the 18 students from the first batch of the Samajam’s mural painting class, making the occasion even more special.

Among those present were Kharghar Kerala Samajam Secretary K. N. Manoj, President Pradeep Kumar, and Joint Treasurer Jayaprakash Warrier, who appreciated the initiative as a meaningful effort to preserve and promote Kerala’s artistic traditions for future generations.

The “Mizhithurakkal” mural now stands as a vibrant cultural landmark, welcoming visitors with a visual celebration of Kerala’s heritage, unity, and timeless artistic excellence.
