Renowned artist Balan Tripunithura was honoured with the prestigious Chakyar Rajan Memorial Award at a grand function held at the Dr. Ashok Mehta Auditorium, Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai.

The award was presented by Justice J. D. Sriram and Justice J. D. Somasekharan Sundaresan in recognition of Balan Tripunithura’s outstanding contributions to the field of performing arts.

Addressing the gathering, Justice Somasekharan Sundaresan drew a parallel between the pursuit of excellence in classical arts and the practice of law. He observed that just as artists continuously strive for perfection and deeper expression through repeated performances, members of the legal fraternity also endeavour to uphold the true spirit of justice by interpreting the law with compassion and humanity.

The Chakyar Rajan Memorial Award is jointly presented by the Bangalore based Atmalaya Academy of Arts & Cultural Trust and Navi Mumbai based Natyashastra Gurukulam to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to India’s rich cultural heritage.

Several eminent personalities, including Guru Kalyana Sundaram, Guru Mythili, Dr. Balachandran, Dr. Padmaja Suresh, and other distinguished guests, felicitated the awardee and congratulated him on this well-deserved recognition.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of a posthumous award and a vibrant cultural programme showcasing a variety of Indian classical and traditional dance forms, including Odissi, Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, and Rajasthani folk dance, performed by artists from different parts of the country.

The recognition of Balan Tripunithura with the Chakyar Rajan Memorial Award was one of the highlights of the evening, celebrating his invaluable contribution to India’s cultural and artistic landscape.
