Mumbai has received a major infrastructure boost with the Maharashtra state cabinet sub-committee clearing Metro Line 8, a crucial corridor that will directly link Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Andheri with Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
The 35-km Metro Line 8 will run partly underground from Andheri to Ghatkopar and then as an elevated corridor along the Ghatkopar–Mankhurd stretch up to NMIA. The line will have 20 stations, improving seamless connectivity between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai while significantly reducing travel time between the two airports.
Planned under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the project is estimated to cost ₹22,862 crore and is expected to be completed within three and a half years. The corridor will also integrate with multiple existing and proposed Metro lines, strengthening regional transport across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Once operational, Metro Line 8 is projected to serve nearly nine lakh passengers daily, marking a major step forward in enhancing urban mobility and airport connectivity.
