Renowned Mohiniyattam exponent Dr. Neena Prasad captivated audiences with her latest dance production “Neena Mohanam” at the Upavan Amphitheatre, Thane, presenting an evening rich in classical elegance and emotional depth.

The programme was organised by Dhwani – Space of Dance in collaboration with IPTA Kerala Mumbai Chapter. A major highlight of the evening was “Devayani,” Dr. Neena Prasad’s new choreographic work inspired by the timeless Puranic tale. The performance explored the complexities of the human psyche, drawing striking parallels between mythological ego and contemporary emotional conflicts.
Through powerful abhinaya and graceful movements, Dr. Neena Prasad brought alive Devayani’s journey from desire to disillusionment, portraying how love devoid of equality and empathy can lead to inevitable tragedy. The presentation resonated deeply with the audience, especially reflecting the emotional dilemmas and impulsive decisions seen among today’s youth.
The performance was further elevated by a soulful musical ensemble featuring Changanassery Madhavan Namboothiri (vocal), Ramesh Babu (mridangam), Viju S. Anand (violin), Kalamandalam Arun Das (Idakka), and evocative recitations by Aswathi Krishna.
The event witnessed the presence of a distinguished gathering including social activist Lion Kumaran Nair, SNMS officials M.A. Damodaran, Mohandas and Girish Gopalan, Kathakali artist Tara Varma, and IPTA members V. Subramanian, Sholi Satikumar, G. Viswanathan, and Renu Manilal.
Smita Aneesh Kumar delivered the welcome address, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dimple Girish, disciple of Dr. Neena Prasad.

Dr. Neena Prasad, who has performed extensively across India and internationally, continues to redefine the horizons of Mohiniyattam through her innovative approach and profound humanistic vision.
