Few educators leave behind a legacy that spans generations. Dr. Oommen David, a distinguished educationist from Kuttamperoor, Mannar in Alappuzha district, Kerala, has achieved that rare distinction by completing 50 remarkable years of dedicated service in the field of education.
Armed with a Master’s Degree and B.Ed., Dr. Oommen David began his teaching career in Panvel before joining Model English School, Dombivli in 1974. His commitment, vision and leadership soon earned him the position of Principal, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the institution and inspiring thousands of students.
Driven by the belief that “Education is the greatest wealth,” Dr. Oommen founded Holy Angels School and Junior College under the Trinity Education Trust in Dombivli. Today, the institution stands as one of the region’s most respected centres of learning, known for its academic excellence, value-based education and holistic development. The school has consistently produced outstanding CBSE results, with students achieving national-level distinctions.
Dr. Oommen’s David’s wife, Leela Oommen, herself an eminent educationist, served as the Principal of S.E.S. Junior College, Thane, and continues as the Managing Trustee of the institution. Their son, Bijoy Oommen, now serves as the Principal of Holy Angels School, carrying forward the family’s rich educational legacy.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Oommen David has made significant contributions to society through his active involvement in educational, charitable and socio-cultural organisations. He has held leadership positions in several voluntary bodies, including Rotary and YMCA, and earned widespread recognition for his humanitarian initiatives, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
His contributions have received national and international acclaim. Dr. Oommen David has been honoured at the British Parliament, received several prestigious education awards, including the K K Foundation Best Teacher – Mumbai Award, and has been felicitated by leading educational, social and cultural organisations. He has also represented the global Malayali community as a participant in the World Kerala Sabha, where he shared his vast experience in education and advocated for the welfare of expatriate Malayalees.
