Bookings for flights from the newly inaugurated Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will commence next week, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation sector.

In the initial phase, the airport plans to operate 20 flights daily, while Akasa Air has announced that it will operate 100 domestic flights per week from the new facility. Other airlines including IndiGo and Air India Express will also begin their services shortly.

Security arrangements at NMIA have been fully handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Around 900 personnel have already been deployed, and this will soon be increased to 1,800 to ensure smooth and secure operations.

The much-awaited greenfield airport—India’s largest—was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8. Built at a cost of ₹19,650 crore, NMIA is expected to significantly ease passenger congestion at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

IndiGo has announced 18 daily services to 15 Indian cities in the first phase of operations. Air India Express will also begin flights connecting 15 cities across the country.

The launch of services from NMIA marks the beginning of a new era in regional connectivity and is expected to greatly enhance travel convenience for passengers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
