Seawoods Malayali Samajam, in association with Nexus Mall, Seawoods, is all set to present “Onam Opulence – The 8th Grand Gala” on August 22, 2026, bringing the rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions of Kerala to the heart of Navi Mumbai.
Themed around the grandeur of Onam, this year’s celebration promises to be a spectacular visual and cultural experience, with a special attraction being the first-ever presentation of Poothan and Thira in Seawoods. The colourful folk guardians of Valluvanad will make a dramatic appearance inside the mall, accompanied by traditional costumes, energetic movements and pulsating rhythms.
The event assumes added significance as Seawoods Malayali Samajam and Nexus Mall join hands for a special Silver Jubilee collaboration, featuring a mega floral decoration and an extensive cultural programme.
Grand Floral Spectacle
The magnificent floral display, prepared by more than 100 artists of Seawoods Malayali Samajam, will be open to the public from 10:30 am on August 22 at Nexus Mall, Seawoods. The exhibition will continue through August 23, with the floral display remaining open to visitors until 10:30 pm on August 23.
Cultural Programme
The main cultural programme will be held on August 22 from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm, featuring a colourful array of traditional Kerala art forms and performances.
The highlights include:
- Mega floral arrangements created by over 100 Samajam artists
- Kathakali and traditional Kerala dance performances
- Thiruvathirakkali
- Chendamelam and other ethnic musical performances
- The ceremonial arrival of King Mahabali
- Vedan processions
- Walking characters portraying Parasurama and Vamana
- A special Poothan and Thira presentation from Valluvanad
The grand presentation of Poothan and Thira is expected to be one of the major attractions of this year’s celebration, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the vibrant folklore and traditional performing arts of Kerala.
Celebrating Kerala’s Heritage
Over the years, the Onam celebrations organised by Seawoods Malayali Samajam have become one of Mumbai’s most prominent and artistically rich Onam events. The Samajam’s spectacular floral displays have attracted thousands of visitors and have also witnessed significant participation from people belonging to communities across the country.
The celebrations have also carried a strong social message, with the Samajam’s earlier floral initiatives extending support to flood-affected people in Kerala.
