The Seawoods Malayali Samajam is set to welcome Onam with the roar of Poothan and Thira for the first time.
Onam Opulence will take place on August 22, 2026, at Nexus Mall, Seawoods, held in the courtyard of one of Asia’s largest railway station complexes.
A spectacular floral display and an elaborate presentation of Poothan and Thira will thrill the city.
This year’s main attraction is Poothan and Thira, a vibrant folk spectacle from Valluvanad, Kerala.
Dressed in bright colours, the performers will dance to traditional rhythms inside the mall.
With wide public participation and a splash of colour, Onam Opulence, organised by the Seawoods Malayali Samajam, remains one of Mumbai’s most notable and artistic Onam celebrations.
Seawoods Malayali Samajam and Nexus Mall are celebrating their Silver Jubilee together, and have joined hands to present a mega floral decoration and cultural programme.
The Samajam’s Grama Chantha 2026, held earlier this year, drew large participation and set the tone for the celebrations.
The floral display will be open to the public from 10:30 am on August 22 inside the mall. Cultural programmes will run from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm the same evening.
The Onam Opulence exhibition will remain on display until the night of August 23.
Onam Opulence is an art evening inspired by the legends of Onam and Kerala culture.
Highlights include mega floral arrangements, Kathakali, a visit from Mavelithampuran, Chendamelam, Thiruvathirakkali, Kerala dance and other ethnic performances.
In addition to the Vedans, the traditional characters that herald Onam, the event will feature walking characters such as Parasurama and Vamana.
The event is organised to introduce Onam and Kerala culture to people from all states. Irrespective of caste, religion, language or profession, Seawoods Samajam has for years supported flood‑affected Kerala through its giant floral displays at Seawoods Mall.
This year marks the eighth edition of Onam Opulence, and the Samajam’s 25th anniversary. The event also holds the distinction of having one of the highest levels of non‑Malayali participation in city Onam festivities.
The mega floral decoration, approaching record scale, is being prepared by over a hundred Seawoods Samajam artists.
This is the first time Poothan and Thira will perform at Onam Opulence.
Onam Opulence is also notable for its high number of social reels and digital engagement.
Flowers will be on display from 10:30 am on August 22 until 10:30 pm on August 23.
