In an effort to promote environmental awareness and responsible waste management, Seawoods Malayali Samajam, Navi Mumbai is once again organizing its annual e-waste (electronic waste) collection drive. The initiative, now in its fourth consecutive year, is being held in connection with Earth Day, reinforcing the Samajam’s continued commitment to sustainable practices and community engagement.
The drive aims to create awareness among members and the wider community about the growing environmental challenges posed by improper disposal of electronic waste. Members are encouraged to collect unused and discarded electronic items from their homes and hand them over to authorized recycling agencies through this initiative.
Items being collected include batteries, cables, headsets, earphones, laptops, mobile phones, desktops, monitors, as well as old keyboards, computer mice, chargers, and remote controls.
The e-waste collection will take place at the Samajam office under the leadership of Librarian Gopinathan Nambiar, with active support from the Samajam’s women’s wing. Notably, the programme also involves the participation of the younger generation, aiming to instill in them the importance of environmental conservation and responsible disposal practices from an early age.
Through such initiatives, Seawoods Malayali Samajam continues to play a proactive role in promoting eco-conscious living within the Malayali community in Navi Mumbai, while contributing meaningfully to the larger goal of environmental protection.
