Mumbai: Mulund St. Gregorios Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church will celebrate its Silver Jubilee along with the 124th Dukhrono Feast of St. Gregorios of Parumala (Parumala Thirumeni) on October 31 and November 1, 2026, with a series of spiritual and cultural programmes. The celebrations commenced with the flag-hoisting ceremony held on Sunday, October 25.

Established to meet the spiritual needs of Jacobite faithful in Mumbai’s eastern suburbs, Mulund Service Centre was elevated to the status of an independent parish on April 1, 1995. The foundation stone for the church was laid on January 7, 2000. On November 3 and 4, 2001, worship was shifted from the place of worship at Vithal Nagar to the ground floor of the present church complex, where the first Holy Qurbana was celebrated. This year marks the 25th anniversary of that historic milestone.

The consecration of the Holy Myron of the church was conducted on August 11 and 12, 2002, under the leadership of His Beatitude Baselios Thomas I, Catholicos. On November 13, 2005, the holy relic of St. Gregorios of Parumala was installed at the church, which was subsequently declared a pilgrimage centre.

Alongside its spiritual activities, the parish has consistently focused on education and charitable service. St. Gregorios Public School and Junior College, managed by the St. Gregorios Charitable Trust, is one of the prominent educational institutions in the area. The church and the trust also extend financial assistance to individuals requiring medical treatment and surgeries, underprivileged students and various charitable institutions.

The Silver Jubilee celebrations provide an opportunity to gratefully remember 25 years of growth through faith, prayer and service, made possible by God’s grace. The occasion will also honour the spiritual leaders, founders and former parish members who contributed to the establishment and development of the parish. A series of spiritual and cultural programmes has been organised in conjunction with the 124th Dukhrono Feast of St. Gregorios of Parumala.

His Grace Kuriakose Mor Yausebios Metropolitan will lead the feast services and preside over the Silver Jubilee public meeting scheduled for 7.30 pm on October 31.

His Grace Dr. Mathews Mor Pachomios Metropolitan of the Malankara Catholic Church will deliver the benediction address. Benny Behanan, Member of Parliament, will attend as the chief guest, while noted film actor and advertising film director Sijoy Varghese will deliver the keynote address.

As part of the jubilee celebrations, the Silver Jubilee Souvenir and the Parish Directory 2026 will be released. The church website will also be inaugurated, along with the launch of a special charitable initiative. Programmes highlighting the historical journey of the parish and various spiritual and cultural performances will form part of the celebrations.

On November 1, the feast day, the Holy Three Qurbana will be celebrated at 9 am, with His Grace Kuriakose Mor Yausebios Metropolitan as the chief celebrant.

Parish Vicar Fr. Eldho Kottiyathil and Feast Convener Feby Koshy have invited parishioners, faithful and well-wishers to participate in the Silver Jubilee celebrations and the feast of St. Gregorios of Parumala.
