Thane: Gopalakrishna S. Pillai, fondly known as G. S. Pillai and affectionately called “Gopiettan,” a respected social and cultural activist and an outstanding organiser in Thane, has passed away. His sudden demise is a great loss to the Malayali community in Thane and Mumbai.

Known for his simplicity, warmth and dedication, Gopiettan earned the affection and respect of his colleagues and community members. For many, he was not only a senior colleague but also an elder brother and a role model in social work.

A senior railway employee, G. S. Pillai was actively involved in various railway agitations organised under the leadership of the KKS (Yatra Samithi). His presence at these protests was a source of inspiration and confidence for fellow participants. His commitment to community causes and willingness to stand at the forefront of public initiatives earned him widespread respect.

G. S. Pillai served for many years on the executive committee of KKS. He also served as the former President of the All Thane Malayali Association (ATMA) and as President of the Kalwa Kairali Samajam. Through these organisations, he made significant contributions to the social and cultural life of the Malayali community.

His passing has left a deep void among friends, colleagues and members of the organisations with which he was associated. The community remembers G. S. Pillai with great respect and gratitude for his years of dedicated service.

Heartfelt tributes to Gopiettan, whose contributions and warm presence will be remembered by the Malayali community for years to come.
