In recognition of his unwavering commitment to wildlife conservation and animal welfare spanning nearly three decades, the Maharashtra Forest Department has appointed Sunish Subramanian Kunju as the Honorary Wildlife Warden for Mumbai Suburban.

A well-known environmentalist and freelance journalist, Sunish has devoted more than 28 years to the protection of wildlife, animal welfare, and environmental conservation in and around Mumbai. His appointment is a fitting acknowledgement of his dedicated service and significant contributions to safeguarding the region’s biodiversity.

Sunish currently serves as the President of Amma Care Foundation (ACF), Secretary of Plant & Animals Welfare Society – Mumbai (PAWS-Mumbai), and Maharashtra State Representative for Wildlife Protection and Conservation of the International Organisation for Animal Protection (OIPA). He is also an Honorary Animal Welfare Representative of the Animal Welfare Board of India and an Honorary Animal Welfare Officer with the Committee to Monitor Animal Welfare Laws in Maharashtra, constituted by the Bombay High Court and the Government of Maharashtra.

Prior to this appointment, Sunish successfully completed two consecutive terms as the Honorary Wildlife Warden for Mumbai City. During his tenure, he worked closely with the Forest Department and various law enforcement agencies, playing a key role in wildlife rescue operations, anti-poaching initiatives, wildlife crime investigations, enforcement raids, and cases related to animal cruelty.

Over the years, his relentless efforts have earned him numerous awards, appreciation letters, and recognitions from various organisations and government agencies.
