The general meeting of the Malayalam Mission Mumbai Chapter was held on Sunday, April 19, at Adarsha Vidyalayam, Chembur, under the presidency of R.D. Harikumar. Renowned poet and Malayalam Mission Director Murugan Kattakada inaugurated the function and stated that Onam is a powerful symbol of equality deeply rooted in the hearts of Malayalees, emphasizing that Malayalees unite beyond differences of religion and place of birth under the shared value of their mother tongue. Referring to the “One Dollar for Wayanad” initiative, he noted that students of Malayalam Mission across the world raised ₹53.5 lakh within 25 days, with the Mumbai Chapter contributing the highest amount, and praised the chapter as a vital link in the global language movement while also commending its unique and well-organized home visit programme.

The meeting began at 10 a.m. with a Malayalam prayer by Malayalam Mission teachers, followed by a welcome address by Convener Jeevarajan, while Chapter Chairman Dr. Venugopalan and Advisory Committee Chairman Rukmini Sagar offered their greetings. Teachers from twelve regional study centres, along with members of the general council and various committees, attended the meeting. Chapter Secretary Ramachandran Manjarambath presented the report of activities for the past three years, which was discussed by representatives from different regions.


The election of the new Chapter Working Committee for the next two years was held, electing Dr. A. P. Jayaraman as Chairman, R. D. Harikumar as President, K. K. Pradeep Kumar and Jaya Kurup as Vice Presidents, Reena Santhosh as Secretary, Mohankumar K. S. and Nisha Prakash as Joint Secretaries, Jeevarajan as Convenor, Ramachandran Manjarambath as Advisory Committee Chairman, N. Hari as Expert Committee Convenor and Nandakumar T. Vijayamma as Technical Committee Convenor, along with regional coordinators Babu John (Nasik), Sajini Surendran (Konkan), Sindhu Vijayan Nair (Kalyan–Badlapur), K. Raghavan (Mumbra–Kalyan), Vinod Kumar (Mahad–Kamothe), Mini Anil (Kharghar–Airoli), Mohan Kumar (Nallasopara–Boisar), Shiny Jayan (Mira–Vasai), Asha Menon (Bandra–Dahisar), Latika Balakrishnan (Colaba–Mankhurd), Kannan Thankappan (Powai–Sakinaka East) and Prakashan Nair (Thane).


During the function, the Malayalam Mission Director distributed identity cards to teachers and presented certificates of the 2025 academic festivals to regional representatives, and the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by newly elected Secretary Reena Santhosh.
