Actress and teacher Beena R. Chandran said that women must find their own freedom, just as a parrot breaks its nest and flies out, while speaking at a face-to-face interaction held after the performance of the one-act play ‘Otta Njavalmaram’ in Mumbai.
The play, written by K. V. Sreeja and directed by C. M. Narayanan, was presented by Kalapathashala Arangottukara and premiered on February 21 at the Samajam Hall of the IPTA Kerala Mumbai Chapter, Nerul. The interaction with the actress was led by poetess Sunitha Ezhumavil.
The event, titled Nadakaravu, began with the IPTA Kerala Mumbai unit paying tribute to writer and theatre activist K. V. Vijesh, with young theatre activists presenting songs in his memory. Several IPTA Kerala Mumbai Chapter office bearers and senior theatre activists attended and congratulated the team and young performers.
Beena R. Chandran noted that the growing confidence of children to express themselves through drama, with the support of their parents, is a hopeful sign in today’s turbulent socio-political climate. The evening concluded with Beena R. Chandran singing and reciting verses.
