Santhakumari, mother of Malayalam film superstar Mohanlal, passed away on Tuesday at the family residence in Elamakkara, Kochi. She was 90 and had been battling prolonged health issues. She was bedridden for some time following a stroke.
Originally hailing from Elanthur in Pathanamthitta district, Santhakumari had moved to Thiruvananthapuram several decades ago following the professional commitments of her husband, the late Viswanathan Nair, who served the Kerala government as its Law Secretary.
For most of her life, Santhakumari lived at the family home in Thiruvananthapuram. After she suffered a stroke, Mohanlal brought her to Kochi so that she could stay with him and receive continuous care.
Several prominent personalities from the film industry and public life have expressed their condolences on her passing.
