The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will roll out a year-long citywide cleanliness initiative titled ‘Swachhta Manthan’ from January to December 2026, aimed at strengthening Mumbai’s hygiene standards through healthy competition and public participation.

The campaign will feature cleanliness competitions across multiple categories, including municipal wards, residential complexes, markets, hospitals, schools, and other public spaces. To encourage participation, the BMC has announced cash prizes and certificates amounting to ₹4.20 crore for top-performing entities in each category.

A key highlight of the initiative is the evaluation by an independent third-party agency, ensuring transparency and objective assessment of cleanliness standards across the city.

Further details regarding application procedures, eligibility, and category-wise criteria are expected to be released shortly. A grand prize distribution ceremony is planned for December 2026.

Through Swachhta Manthan, the BMC aims to make cleanliness a continuous, year-long movement, complementing its ongoing efforts to tackle pollution, improve urban hygiene, and enhance the overall quality of life in Mumbai.
