The Central Government has amended the Aadhaar Authentication and Offline Verification Rules, 2021 to introduce a more secure method for sharing Aadhaar details. Under the new system, individuals will be able to verify their Aadhaar by simply scanning a QR code, eliminating the need to provide photocopies of the Aadhaar card.
The updated facility will be available through the new Aadhaar app, which allows users to authenticate their identity digitally without revealing their Aadhaar number.
Currently, many establishments—such as hotels—routinely collect photocopies of Aadhaar cards from visitors. With the new system, this practice becomes unnecessary. Hotels or other private institutions can generate a QR code through the app, which the customer can scan and complete the verification process securely.
Private organizations wishing to use this verification system must apply for approval from the Aadhaar authority.
