Mumbayile Malayali Prathibhakal is a regular feature of Kerala in Mumbai, dedicated to celebrating the lives, achievements, and enduring contributions of Malayalees who have distinguished themselves in Mumbai through talent, dedication, perseverance, and hard work.

For decades, members of the Malayali community have played a significant role in shaping the social, cultural, educational, and economic landscape of Mumbai. Their contributions span diverse fields such as literature, arts, music, cinema, business, education, science, social service, sports, and public life. Their journeys of commitment and excellence continue to inspire generations and remain a source of pride for the community.

Through this feature, Kerala in Mumbai seeks to document and honour these remarkable personalities by sharing their stories of achievement, resilience, service, and leadership, thereby preserving an important chapter in the collective memory of Mumbai’s Malayali community.

In this edition of Mumbaiyile Malayali Prathibhakal, we are proud to present D. R. Nair, a distinguished construction professional and a prominent member of Mumbai’s Malayali community. Beginning his career as an office clerk, D. R. Nair went on to build an impressive career in the construction industry and rose to become Vice President – Construction at Hiranandani Group, playing a key role in several major residential and commercial projects across Mumbai. His professional journey and contribution to landmark developments were featured in the Kerala in Mumbai magazine May 2013 issue.

Known for his dedication, technical expertise and commitment to completing projects successfully, D. R. Nair was associated with several important developments, including projects at Powai, Thane, Kandivali and Chandivali. The feature also highlights his involvement in completing housing projects and his 25 years of dedicated service to the Hiranandani Group. Beyond his professional achievements, he and his family were actively involved in the social and cultural activities of Mumbai Malayalees, including organisations such as the Hiranandani Keralite Association, Ayyappa Seva Sangham, Powai Nair Welfare Society and Powai Kerala Samajam.

We hope this regular feature will serve as a meaningful platform to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding Malayalees of Mumbai whose professional achievements, community involvement and dedication have enriched both the Malayali community and the city they proudly called home.
