Mumbai: The annual Onam celebration of Mulund Kerala Samajam was held on Sunday, September 20, at the Maharashtra Seva Sangh Hall, above Apna Bazaar, Mulund West, bringing together members of the Malayalee community for a vibrant celebration of Kerala’s culture and traditions.
The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the Bhadradeepam, marking the inauguration of the celebrations. The Chief Guest, MLA Mihir Kotecha, graced the occasion along with the office-bearers and prominent members of the Samajam.
As part of the programme, the Ajith Kumar Nair Memorial Award was presented to students who secured the highest marks in the SSC and HSC examinations during the previous academic year.
The cultural programme featured a variety of colourful performances, including Kaikottikkali, dance and musical presentations. The Women’s Section, under the leadership of Usha Radhakrishnan, presented Kaikottikkali along with a special presentation featuring Mahabali Chakravarthy, adding to the traditional Onam atmosphere.
Students of Geetha Nriththa Vidyalaya, Mulund, under the guidance of dance teacher Girija Teacher, presented the ballet Sree Krishna Leela. Kalamandalam Kalashri C. Gopalakrishnan directed a special dance presentation of Ramanan, based on the celebrated poem by Changampuzha Krishna Pillai. Siva Shankar Krishna, winner of Flowers Top Singer Season 5, entertained the audience with his musical performance.
Prominent personalities from Mumbai’s socio-cultural sphere were also honoured during the celebrations. The programme was jointly anchored by Sangeetha, Suprabha Nair and Edassery Ramachandran.
A traditional and delicious Onam Sadya was another highlight of the celebration, with members and guests coming together to enjoy the festive feast. With Mahabali adding to the Onam spirit and a rich lineup of cultural programmes, music and dance, the event reflected the traditions and togetherness of Kerala.
The entire celebration was well organised and smoothly conducted, making it a memorable Onam gathering for the Malayalee community in Mulund.
