Farooq, a prominent member of the Malayali community in Mira Road Mumbai, is contesting for a second consecutive term in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation elections from Ward 13. He is entering the fray as a Congress candidate, confident that his consistent public engagement and grassroots work will earn him the trust of voters this time.
Ward 13 is among the most populous wards in the civic body, with over 53,000 voters. Farooq, who has been residing in Mira Road for over three decades, says his long association with the area has helped him stay closely connected with local issues and residents’ concerns.
Although he narrowly lost in the previous election, Farooq and the Congress leadership believe that sustained organisational work over the past several years—particularly in areas including Hatkesh—will translate into positive electoral results.
Professionally, Farooq began his career in the tyre industry more than 35 years ago and later established his own enterprise in the sector. Alongside his business career, he has remained actively involved in public life. He has also served as State Secretary of the Maharashtra Tyre Association and currently holds the position of President of the local Block Congress Committee.
Farooq comes from a family with a strong public service background. His father, N. H. Mohammed, was an elected member of the Alathur Panchayat of Palakkad district, Kerala in 1987, and other family members have also served as people’s representatives. Drawing inspiration from this legacy, Farooq says he is hopeful of securing a mandate and continuing his work for the welfare and development of the ward.
