Mumbai will witness an enchanting evening of Indian classical dance as Purvai Sanskreeti Kala Vikash Kendra, Kolkata, presents “Rasa Vilash 2026” at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, on Friday, April 10th.

The programme is being organised as a tribute to the legendary Odissi maestro Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, marking his birth centenary and commemorating his 22nd death anniversary. This is the first time the Kolkata-based institution is hosting such a prestigious classical dance event in Mumbai.

The Kendra is led by renowned danseuse and mentor Guru Nandini Chaudhry Mohanty, who continues to uphold the rich legacy of Indian classical arts. The evening will showcase a vibrant spectrum of classical dance forms including Odissi, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniyattam, performed by accomplished artists and emerging talents.

Speaking about the initiative, Guru Nandini Mohanty said that the institution was founded by her father, Guru Apurba Kumar Choudhury, with the vision of promoting and propagating classical arts by providing a platform for artists. His dream, she noted, was to create unity among artists and encourage them to work together for the welfare and advancement of the artistic community.

The programme will feature performances by disciples of eminent gurus including Guru Kashmeera Trivedi, Guru Madhuri Prathap, Guru Vijay Shanker and Guru Subitha Murali, among others. Disciples of Guru Nandini Mohanty will also be performing, many of whom are presenting their art in Mumbai for the first time and are eagerly looking forward to the occasion.

“Rasa Vilash 2026” promises to be a memorable celebration of India’s rich classical dance heritage, bringing together diverse traditions on a single मंच and paying homage to one of the greatest gurus of Indian classical dance.
