Renowned Mohiniyattam exponent, researcher, and teacher Dr. Neena Prasad will present Devayani, the timeless tale of a father’s devotion, a daughter’s stubbornness, and the consequences of her choices, at the Upavan Amphitheatre, Thane, on March 21st at 6:59 p.m.

The performance, organised by Dhwani – Space of Dance School, Thane, in association with the IPTA Kerala Mumbai Unit, explores the story of Devayani from the Puranas — a young woman whose emotions, impulsive decisions, and their repercussions form the heart of this narrative.

Dr. Prasad brings to life the key moment when King Yayati is chosen as Devayani’s husband after her father, Shukracharya, fulfills her wish.

The story unfolds further when Devayani’s love for Kacha — who had come to learn the Mritasanjeevani mantra — leads to a series of tragic turns.

Through this production, Neena Prasad reinterprets the myth as a reflection of contemporary society — portraying the dilemmas of today’s youth who often make life-altering decisions driven by emotion rather than maturity.

This will be the first staging of Devayani by Dr. Neena Prasad in Mumbai, offering audiences a poignant and visually compelling dance experience.

The evening, part of the Neena Mohanam series, will be held at the scenic Upavan Amphitheatre, known for hosting numerous acclaimed dance performances.

A celebrated artiste who has performed across India and abroad, Dr. Neena Prasad continues to bring innovative perspectives to Mohiniyattam, enriching this classical art form of Kerala with depth and contemporary relevance.
