Sree Narayana Guru College of Commerce and Science, Chembur, managed by the Mumbai Sree Narayana Mandira Samiti, has been granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for a period of five years.
The prestigious recognition has been awarded in view of the institution’s consistent academic excellence, strong administrative management, and well-developed infrastructure. The college is affiliated with the University of Mumbai.
With the autonomous status, the college will gain greater academic flexibility, including the authority to design and revise its curriculum, introduce new courses, conduct examinations, and declare results independently, in accordance with UGC guidelines. However, the degree certificates will continue to be awarded by the University of Mumbai.
To ensure efficient governance, statutory bodies such as the Governing Body, Academic Council, Finance Committee, Examination Committee, and Board of Studies will be constituted as per UGC norms.
Welcoming the achievement, Mandira Samiti Committee President M.I. Damodaran, Chairman N. Mohandas, and General Secretary O.K. Prasad stated that the autonomous status marks an important milestone in the institution’s growth and represents a significant step towards the long-term vision of establishing a university.
The Mumbai Sree Narayana Mandira Samiti also manages several other educational institutions, including the International School at Chembur complex, Sree Narayana Guru institutions at Ulwe and Dr. Palpu Memorial International School in Tarapur.
They expressed confidence that the new status will further enhance the college’s academic standards and provide greater opportunities for innovation and development in higher education.
