The Kochi Corporation has announced plans to set up a music museum in honour of legendary singer K. J. Yesudas by acquiring and redeveloping the house in Fort Kochi where he was born and brought up. The project was announced as part of the Corporation’s budget proposals.

With the support of the government and institutions including the National Cultural Trust, the heritage house will be transformed into a museum showcasing the musical life and legacy of the iconic singer. The project aims to pay a fitting tribute to the legend Gana Gandharvan at his birthplace.

As part of the initiative, the Corporation will also establish a ‘Gandharva Sangeetha Veethi’, a dedicated music street where songs of Yesudas will be played using modern sound systems. The project is being prepared by the Centre for Heritage, Environment and Development (C-HEAD) under the Corporation, at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore.

In addition, a major street in the city will be developed as a music street, and a national music festival in the name of Yesudas is also proposed to be held from next year, further celebrating the timeless contribution of the maestro to Indian music.
