‘ Bhagiratha Prayatnam’ experiments with Mohiniyattam in Mumbai

Bhagiratha Prayatnam, an experimental Mohiniyattam presentation, was staged at the Shanmukhapriya Natyanjali 2026 Dance Festival held at the Subrahmanya Temple, Chembur.

The performance was directed by dance teacher Rama Vivek. The concept and composition were by Anil Pothuval, with music direction by Nedumulli Krishnan Mohanan. The mridangam was played by Shakthidharan, Edakka by Anil Poduval, while flute and sitar were by Raghavendra.

Based on the legend of King Bhagiratha’s penance to bring the Ganga to earth, the production featured Mahasiva, Parvathy, Bhagirathan and Ganga in key roles. Rema Vivek ( Mahashiva ), Shraddha Muneshar (Parvathy), Mary Rose (Bhagirathan) and Priyanka (Ganga) performed the lead roles.
