Raagalaya Lifetime Achievement Award 2026 to Salil Chowdhury: Light Music Competition Announced

Raagalaya has announced that this year’s Raagalaya Lifetime Achievement Award will be dedicated to the legendary music director late Salil Chowdhury, whose immortal compositions enriched Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali and several other Indian languages. The award ceremony will be held on Saturday, 11th April 2026, at Mysore Association Hall, Matunga, from 6.00 pm onwards followed by a musical tribute to the legend by popular Mumbai based singers with orchestra support.

The award will be received on behalf of the maestro by his son Shri Sanjoy Chowdhury, himself a noted music director. The organisers stated that the honour is a tribute to Salil Chowdhury’s timeless contribution to Indian film music and his enduring influence across generations of music lovers.

As part of the celebrations, Raagalaya has also announced the Raagalaya Light Music Competition 2026, which will be held on Sunday, 5th April 2026, at Marol Education Academy, Bhawani Nagar, Marol, Andheri (East). The competition will be conducted in six age groups: Group A (5–10 years), Group B (11–15 years), Group C (16–25 years), Group D (26–40 years), Group E (41–60 years) and Group F (61 years and above).

Interested participants are requested to record and send one song composed by Salil Chowdhury in any language for selection purposes to +91 98190 90857. Entries may be sent with or without track support and it can be either a video or audio recording, preferably video recording. There will be First and Second Prize winners (male and female) in each category. The First Prize winners will receive their awards at the Anniversary function on 11th April 2026 from the hands of the Chief Guest. The songs of all prize winners will be uploaded later on Raagalaya’s YouTube channel, Raagalaya Entertainment Media.

The aspiring singers from across age groups may send their entries at the earliest and be part of this musical tribute to one of India’s greatest composers.
