Title Waves Bookstore, Bandra, recently hosted an engaging book reading and discussion session of Girl in Scarlet Hijab, the debut novel by author Dr. Suresh U. Kumar. The evening witnessed an insightful conversation with noted educator Dr. Swaroop Sampat Rawal and Asia’s first reading coach Reeta Ramamurthy Gupta, moderated by actor and Paperbacktalks founder Rahul Saini.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, a Kerala-born, New Jersey–based business leader, shared that a life-altering angioplasty became the trigger for writing the novel—driven by a desire to pass on the stories of his land, people, and history to his son. Set against the politically charged backdrop of 1980s Kerala, Girl in Scarlet Hijab is a powerful tale of revolution, identity, and youthful courage.
The discussion also touched upon the importance of reading fiction and the cinematic potential of compelling narratives. The session concluded with an enthusiastic interaction with readers and a book-signing, making it a memorable evening for Mumbai’s vibrant literary community.
