Describing the Mumbai Marathon as the very pulse, emotion and heartbeat of the city, Mumbai-based social activist Edassery Ramachandran shared his long association with the iconic race that has grown into Asia’s largest marathon.

The marathon, which began in 2004 as the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, was rechristened as the Tata Mumbai Marathon in 2018 after Tata took over as title sponsor. Coincidentally, 2004 also marked the year Ramachandran joined the Tata group, making his marathon journey closely intertwined with his professional life.

After a brief break of a few years, Ramachandran returned to active participation this year, taking part in the 5.9 km Dream Run, a category that saw the participation of over 60,000 runners. Employees from corporates, banks and NGOs came together in this category, which places special emphasis on charity and social causes.

“The Mumbai Marathon is an unforgettable experience. Only those who have run it can truly understand the electrifying vibe during and after the race,” Ramachandran remarked, recalling the unique spirit of camaraderie and social commitment that defines the event.
