The Indian National Congress has fielded a Malayali candidate, Murali Pillai, in Ward No. 154 of Chembur for the forthcoming municipal elections. A well-known social worker and community leader, Murali Pillai has been actively involved in public service and social activities in the area for several decades.
Murali Pillai has earlier served as the President and Vice President of Congress Sevadal Maharashtra and is currently the Block President. A long-time resident of Collector’s Colony, Chembur, he has been working among the local community for over 43 years and is familiar with the concerns and aspirations of people across all sections.
He is also associated with several social and cultural organisations, including serving as Secretary of the Guruprabha Ayyappa Mandir, and as an active member of the Malayali Samajam and NSS. His notable contribution during the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly in organising food and essential supplies for the needy, has earned him widespread appreciation.
The Congress candidate will face BJP’s Mahadev Sivan in the ward. Expressing confidence, Murali Pillai stated that he is optimistic of securing a decisive victory with the support of residents.
Murali Pillai hails from the Kumbazhaveedu family of Kayamkulam Chettanam Pallikkal in Kerala. His candidature is being viewed as a significant development, especially by the Malayali community in Chembur, who see it as an opportunity for stronger representation in local governance.
