A Malayali priest based in Mumbai has added a special musical charm to this year’s Christmas celebrations by composing new Christmas carols that have resonated widely with listeners. Rev. George John, a priest of the Mar Thoma Church, has been actively contributing to the world of Christmas music through his original compositions.
Rev. George John, who serves as the vicar of St. Paul Mar Thoma Parish, has welcomed Christmas this year with a fresh set of carols. His latest composition, “Manjuthookunna Seethala Raavil”, has drawn considerable attention and appreciation for its melody and devotional appeal.
Over the past two decades, Rev. George John has composed numerous Christmas songs, blending faith, tradition and contemporary musical sensibilities. In 2018, he presented 14 Christmas songs to music lovers under the title “Nakshatra Pookkaalam”, which found a special place in the hearts of the community during the festive season.
Most of his compositions were created in collaboration with music director and close friend Josy Pulladu, while his wife Lini George has also contributed by arranging some of the songs. Together, their efforts have helped make Christmas celebrations more vibrant and meaningful through music.
Through his dedication to composing devotional music, Rev. George John continues to transform Christmas Eve into a soulful musical celebration, enriching the festive spirit among the faithful and music lovers alike.
