A case has been registered against film director and former MLA P. T. Kunjumuhammed based on a complaint alleging behaviour that amounted to insulting a woman’s dignity. The complaint was reportedly filed in connection with an incident said to have taken place at a hotel in the capital.
According to available information, the complaint had reached the Chief Minister’s Office nearly two weeks ago. However, the case was formally registered only recently. Reports also suggest that the police had earlier recorded the director’s statement and collected CCTV footage from the hotel.
There are allegations that instructions were initially given not to register the case, and that the complaint remained undisclosed for some time. These reports have raised questions regarding the delay in completing the procedure.
Meanwhile, P. T. Kunjumuhammed has responded by stating that he had no intention to behave in an inappropriate manner. He mentioned that his words or actions may have been misunderstood and expressed readiness to apologise if any discomfort was caused. He also stated that he has health-related issues and did not knowingly act in a manner that could be considered indecent.
The incident comes at a time when the city is preparing to host the International Film Festival, expected to begin this week in Thiruvananthapuram.
Further investigation is underway, and the police are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding both the complaint and the delay in registering the case.
