Work has officially begun to develop Vasai Road Railway Station into a full-fledged terminus, raising strong hopes among Malayalees in the western suburbs that direct train services from Vasai to Kerala may soon become a reality.
According to railway officials, construction work has commenced on two new tracks and platforms on the northeast side of the existing station. This expansion is part of a larger development plan that includes converting Vasai Road into a terminus to decongest major stations and improve long-distance connectivity.
As part of the project, the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is preparing to construct a new, wider East–West bridge, replacing the old iron-girder structure located north of the station. Officials also indicated that there are plans to build a road connecting the upcoming bridge directly to the terminus area, improving passenger movement and access.
Infrastructure upgrades are progressing on platforms 6 and 7—where most Kerala-bound trains currently halt—with the installation of two escalators and a lift underway to enhance commuter convenience.
With these developments now moving forward, Malayalees residing in Vasai, Virar, Nalasopara, and the surrounding western suburbs are hopeful that the long-pending demand for direct Kerala train services from Vasai Road will soon be fulfilled.
