Shashidharan, a native of Edavanakad in Vypin, to the stage — the very person who first called him “Mammootty” during their days at Maharaja’s College.
The unexpected gesture captivated the crowd, drawing loud applause as Shashidharan stepped onto the stage. Mammootty recalled how his friend had corrected his then self-styled name, “Omar Sharif Mohammed Kutty,” and playfully shortened it to the iconic name the world knows today —Mammootty.
