The Mumbai Chapter of the Malayalam Mission has announced the results of the chapter-level final of the Sugatanjali Global Poetry Singing Competition, with young talents from different regions of Maharashtra securing top honours in various categories.
The final competition featured the first, second and third prize winners from 12 regions under the Mumbai Chapter, including Nashik and Konkan. The competition was conducted online and brought together participants who had emerged winners at the regional level.
The meeting was presided over by Mumbai Chapter President R. D. Harikumar, while Chapter Secretary Reena Santosh welcomed the participants. Girijavallabhan, Nandakumar, Vinayan Kalathur, Madhu Nambiar and others spoke on the occasion. Mumbai Chapter Chairman Dr. A. P. Jayaraman announced the results, and K. S. Mohankumar proposed the vote of thanks.
The Sugatanjali Global Poetry Singing Competition is organised annually by the Malayalam Mission in memory of renowned poet Sugathakumari, who was also a member of the Malayalam Mission Governing Committee. Learners of Malayalam Mission chapters and regions across the world take part in the competition. This year, participants rendered poems written by noted Malayalam poet Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan.
In the sub-junior category, Ameya Deepu of the Nashik region won the first prize, while Reya Ashwini Kumar of the Bandra-Dahisar region secured second place and Niya Rajeev of the Konkan region came third.
In the junior category, Dhanvin Jayachandran of the Colaba-Mankhurd region emerged first, followed by Haritha Menon of the Kharghar-Airoli region in second place and Padmanabh Manohar Nair of the Mumbra-Kalyan region in third.
The senior category saw Devika S. Nair of the Nallasoppara-Boisar region secure the first position. Sandra Prakasham Nair of the Mumbra-Kalyan region won second place, while Vaishnav V. Warrier of the Mahad-Kamothe region secured third place.
A new Teachers’ Category was introduced this year as part of the Sugatanjali programme. In the Sugatanjali Teacher Global Poetry Recitation Competition, Sridevi Muraleedharan of the Mira-Vasai region won the first position. Deepa Vinodkumar and Sheeba Sajeevan, both from the Mumbra-Kalyan region, secured the second and third positions respectively.
Vinayan Kalathur and Madhu Nambiar were the judges for the competition. The winners of the Mumbai Chapter final will now represent the chapter at the Sugatanjali Global Competition, scheduled to be held in the next quarter.
