The Borivli Malayali Samajam (BMS) has announced the 2nd Borivli Malayali Samajam Kaikottikali Competition, which will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 5.00 pm onwards at the BMS Auditorium, New MHB Colony, Borivli (West), Mumbai.

Organised with the objective of preserving and promoting Kerala’s rich cultural heritage, the competition invites Malayali Samajams and organisations across Mumbai to showcase the beauty and elegance of the traditional Kaikottikali (Thiruvathirakali). Attractive cash prizes of ₹15,000, ₹10,000 and ₹5,000, along with trophies, will be awarded to the top three teams, while all participating teams will receive certificates.

Each participating organisation may nominate one team comprising eight female members. Performances must be based strictly on the traditional Kaikottikali style, using only Malayalam Thiruvathira songs. Film songs, fusion choreography and cinematic elements are not permitted. Each performance should be completed within 10 minutes, including entry and exit.

Participants are required to wear traditional Kerala attire (Settu Mundu) with uniform costumes and accessories. Teams may use pre-recorded music on a labelled pen drive, while special stage props and decorations will not be allowed.

The competition will be judged on authenticity of traditional steps, synchronisation, rhythm, costume and presentation, expression, grace and overall performance. Teams must report at the venue 60 minutes before their scheduled performance. The decisions of the judges and the organising committee will be final.

The event promises to be a grand celebration of Kerala’s traditional dance heritage and an opportunity to strengthen cultural bonds among the Malayali community in Mumbai.
