Since the lakes supplying water to Mumbai city are having low water levels of 9.69%, BMC announced a 5% water cut for the city from May 30 and 10% cut from June 5. Citizens are appealed to conserve water as much as possible. The cut will remain in force until water level rises to the normal. The monsoon is expected to start from June 11. On May 25 last year, the water level was 15.10% and on the previous year it was 19.95%.

The BMC listed out water-saving habits to use water judiciously daily and avoid wasting it. These include drinking water as much as necessary in the glass, bathing with water in a bucket without using shower, avoiding the brushing of teeth and shaving while keeping the tap on.
