Kerala Minister for Scheduled Caste Development, O R Kelu, has requested a report on the incident involving 24 teak trees illegally cut and removed from land assigned to Seeta 20 years ago. She faces a penalty of ₹14,66,843 following media reports. Last Tuesday, the Collector submitted the report to the Land Revenue Commissioner.

District Legal Service Authority Judge P. Manjula has asked the Tahsildar for a detailed report. K. Mohanan, District Secretary of Adivasi Welfare Samiti, plans to raise concerns with the minister regarding Seetha's penalty.

When the land was assigned to Seeta, conditions were set barring timber cutting and land boundary alterations. She now faces a penalty three times the timber's value for the theft.
