Madras IIT is going to open a Centre in the name of Music Director Ilayaraja to teach music and to conduct research in music. To this effect, Madras IIT and Ilaya Raja signed a Memorandum of understanding. IIT Director V Kamakoti and Ilaya Raja himself signed the papers. The musician even laid the foundation stone. The centre will be named ‘IITM-Maestro Ilayaraja Centre for Music Learning and Research’. The centre will wholly be built using bamboo only. Designs of musical instruments, Development of Music skills etc will be implemented. Research will be carried out to study the benefit to humanity from music. New courses associated to music will be started. Employment generation in the field of music will be another area. New start-ups associated with the field of music will be encouraged. Madras IIT Director Kamakoti stated that across the globe several case studies are being done now. Soon we will know if artificial intelligence (AI) could help. According to Ilayaraja, if music is within, ways to learn it could be opened. Sincere efforts to study music would help humanity to master new heights. He said that he never systematically learned music but mastered it by trials. The new attempt would create hundreds of Ilayarajas. He is still continuing his experiments with music. Research will explore the possibilities of creating new musical instruments, he pointed out. Recently Madras IIT opened quota not only for sports but music also.
