Kalpatta Narayanan recently discussed the enduring impact of poet Kumaran Asan, storyteller Vaikom Mohammed Basheer, and writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair at Aksharasandhya, hosted by the New Bombay Keraleeya Samajam in Nerul. He emphasized how these literary figures sought to outlive their times through their works. Narayanan highlighted that while Asan was once overlooked, he is now celebrated as a prominent poet for his focus on marginalized lives and humanity. Basheer, known for bringing rural life into the literary spotlight and using the oral language of his mother, connected deeply with readers through his poetic, philosophical, and mystical approach. M.T. Vasudevan Nair's stories exposed the socio-economic issues of his time and expressed his critique through his narratives. The event also featured participation from novelist Balakrishnan, painter Riaz Komu, journalist N. Sreejit, Prakash Kattakkata, M.P.R. Panicker, and K.A. Kurup, with discussions led by Nisha Gilbert, Raghu Balakrishnan, C.P. Krishnakumar, Sunita Ezhumavil, Mayadatt P.S., M.G. Arun, Radhakrishna Panicker, Jayadeesh, Suresh Tulasi, and Shabu Bhargavan. Shiju Rawther, who recently earned a Ph.D. from Hindustan Institute of Technology and Sciences, Chennai, was honored during the event.
