Preliminary investigations into the Kuwait Fire incident in which 49 people died, indicate that among the deceased, 46 are Indians of which 23 are Keralites. The building is owned by K G Abraham, one of the producers of Aadujeevitham, a film that depicts the miseries of migrant Malayalees in the Gulf region.

The tragic incident took place on Wednesday, the June 12, 2024 pre-dawn. The fire started when the gas cylinder kept inside the room of security man of Egyptian origin, blasted. Around two dozen gas cylinders on the ground floor of the seven storey building, inflammable materials like paper, card board and plastic as partitions to separate the workers in the cramped rooms, locked doors to the roof prevented escape to the roof top. The bodies of the dead would be brought to India in IAF planes. The dead bodies of Keralites will be brought to Nedumbasseri Airport and the state government has made arrangement to transport them to their homes in ambulances. Ministers and officials will receive the bodies at the airport.

The state government has announced Rs 5 lakhs compensation to the bereaved families. Further, M M Yusufali will give Rs 5 lakhs each and Ravi Pillai will give Rs 2 lakhs each. Both of them have intimated their decision to the CM Pinarayi Vijayan.
