A documentary film ‘R P 1987’ was made from the prison of Viyyoor in Thrissur and it received recognition from Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) under Union Home Ministry. The film tells the story of Ravi, a remanded prisoner, who learnt Aluminium Fabrication from prison and later became a businessman who deals with items made by fabrication of Aluminium.
When the documentary was released the person who acted as Ravi was not released from prison. Najib (31) a remanded prisoner having arrested by Angamali police in a drug related case, is a native of North Paravur. Now he is also now a businessman and provides employment to 20 persons. He was inspired by the documentary in which he enacted the role of Ravi In 2021, BPRD put forward a suggestion that each prison should produce a documentary showing Correction from prison. Assistant Prison Officer Suvit Krishna, appointed through Employment Exchange, and Jail Superintendant K Anilkumar discussed this matter and R P 1987 was the outcome. Before remand, Najib was a cloth merchant in Bengaluru and now he is the owner of ‘Dream Build’, an Aluminium Fabrication establishment, in Vaittila in Ernakulam.
