A 11 year old girl, Ritika, who lost her mother after a trailer rammed into her Scooty at Mazgaon in 2015, has been awarded a compensation of Rs1.1 cores by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal.
Ritika’s mother Seeta Ashokan was a 37 year old school and tuition teacher at the time of her death, earning a monthly income of Rs 60,000. Ritika, her father Ashokan Ganapathy and maternal grandfather Anand Subayya Rai then made a claim application but during the pendency of the case both father and grandfather passed away. Ritika was taken care of by her grandmother Bhanumathy Anandraj. Had Seeta Ashokan been alive, she would have earned much more before her retirement by way of promotions etc and the girl lost all that happy life because of the accident. The Tribunal took these aspects into consideration while granted this compensation.
A major portion of this amount is to to be kept in a fixed deposit until Ritika attain 21 years, enabling the girl to use the quarterly interest accrued until then, around Rs 5.50 lakhs with interest from 2015 will be given to her grandmother for her upbringing and welfare.
The compensation will have to be paid by the trailer owner Vidyadhar Mishra and the insurer Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd.
