The Union Railway budget has allocated Rs 1085 crores specifically for doubling railway tracks in Kerala, part of a total railway funding of Rs 3011 crores for the state. An additional Rs 5 crores is designated for a third track on the Shoranur-Ernakulam route. Funds of Rs 44.33 crores are earmarked for constructing overbridges and underbridges to replace 45 level crossings. For track renewal, Rs 300.19 crores is allocated. Specific project allocations include Rs 500 crores for Thuravoor-Ambalapuzha, Rs 365 crores for Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari, Rs 102.5 crores for Kumbalam-Thuravoor, Rs 105 crores for Ernakulam-Kumbalam, Rs 11.5 crores for Kuruppumthura-Chengannur, and Rs 1.2 crores for Ambalapuzha-Haripad.
