Kannur's Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Navin Babu was found dead at his home on October 15, 2024, in an apparent suicide after failing to board a train to Pathanamthitta for a transfer. Concerns arose when he did not arrive at the station.

The controversy escalated following allegations of corruption made by P.P. Divya, the Kannur District Panchayat President, during a farewell meeting on October 14. She accused him of demanding bribes for a No Objection Certificate for a petrol pump.

Known for his integrity, Navin had just seven months left in his career. After his death, Divya publicly apologized and resigned, while police have registered a case against her for abetment of suicide. Calls for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continue.
