Protest by KKS before Kerala House

Members of Keraleeya Kendra Sanghatana made a blockade in front of Kerala House to protest against the rise in rentals of Conference Hall of Kerala House. people from various corners of Mumbai reached the venue by 10’o Clock carrying banners and shouting slogans. According the President Gopalan Nair and Secretary Mathew Thomas, this was the first step towards their infinite struggle to get a restoration of old rentals of Conference Hall. If the rentals are not restored to the old rates, the struggle would be extended to Kerala also.

The main demands of the KKS are: hall rentals at concessional rates, restore the medical benefits to the needy pravasis, ensure democracy in administration of Malayalam Mission, simplify the procedures to register the Malayali organisations with NORKA etc. The participants returned after having Kanji and puzhukku in plates made of areca palm.

Meanwhile Mumbai Chapter of IPTA wrote a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan demanding withdrawal of rise in rentals. The LDF government raised hopes among the Mumbai Malayalees and the hike in rentals of Rs 30,000 from Rs 12,000 per day and Rs 7,000 from Rs 2,000 was a giant rebuff to their hopes, the letter pointed out. At this rate small associations cannot use the Kerala House facility. A namesake reduction in rentals is disgraceful and insulting to Mumbai Malayalees, the letter points out. It reminded them that Kerala House came up at the initiative of LDF.
